The HSE undertook unannounced site safety checks and found more than half of construction sites were failing on health and safety. The wave of inspections by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) took in 75 sites across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Dangerous practices were found at 39 sites and enforcement was required at 25 sites. Linda Christian-Booth, the HSE’s construction team lead for the four counties, said: “These results show that whilst the majority of employers in the refurbishment sector are getting it right, a significant part of the industry is seriously failing its workers.
